New Mexico Wants a Street Address Occupied, Not a Legal Subscription

At Rocket Lawyer the annual figure for registered agent service is $125, and it does not move between membership levels. Our review found no promotional first year sitting underneath it and no cheaper version reserved for a particular plan. In an industry where the advertised number and the number you eventually pay routinely differ, quoting one rate and meaning it deserves acknowledgment before anything critical follows.

The Catch Is the Package, Not the Price

Rocket Lawyer packages the agent role inside a wider legal subscription. The same account gives you document templates, contract tools, and attorney consultations, and for a business that genuinely opens those things the bundle can be excellent value. The $125 is not a markup on the agent role so much as the price of one feature inside a suite.

The question is whether you wanted the suite. A New Mexico LLC that needs its official mail caught and forwarded is buying access to a library it may enter twice, and paying the subscription price for the one shelf it actually uses.

What New Mexico Actually Demands of Whoever Holds the Seat

This is worth spelling out, because it explains why the role is narrower than a platform makes it look. Under NMSA 1978, § 53-19-5(A)(2), the appointment can go to an individual who resides in New Mexico, or to a corporation, limited liability company, or partnership, formed here or authorized here, on one condition: that company's New Mexico place of business must be the same location as your registered office. It is asking for a real address in this state where someone can be handed a lawsuit during working hours, and it asks the same thing whether you pay $90 for it or $249.

Notice what is missing from that requirement. Nothing about software. Nothing about templates, consultations, or a dashboard. The statutory job is physical presence and prompt handling, which is a service, not a platform feature. A subscription can perform it perfectly well. It just cannot perform it any better than a company that does only this.

The ordering rule is simple and it is not optional. Your new agent must be engaged and named on the statement before Rocket Lawyer is released, because the filing replaces one name with another rather than emptying the field.
